Jesus, The Chief Cornerstone - Part 1
Years ago I began studying Jesus as the Chief Cornerstone and just recently the Lord began to refocus my devotion time into this area of study causing me once again to mask in awe of the many jewels displayed in His word. Isaiah 28:16 Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Behold I lay in Zion…” (Hebrew origin and definition of Zion is Tsiyown:Tsiyuwn:Tsiyan meaning mountain of Jerusalem, monumental pillar, desert, barren, drought, dry land or place, solitary place, wilderness.) Here God speaks directly to His people informing us that in your place of Zion or desolation or trial or loneliness, life and hope is given to you through Jesus. “Behold I lay in Zion a Stone…” (Hebrew origin and definition of Stone is Eben:Banah meaning to build, obtain children, make, repair.) In your place of barrenness where you feel you have nothing more to give and absolutely no one understands you, and life is just too hard God says wait I give you Jesus as a stone that you can build your life upon and give birth to your purpose and produce much fruit (souls). “Behold I lay in Zion a stone for a Foundation…” (Hebrew origin and definition of Foundation is Yecuwdah:Yecud:Yacad meaning foundation, beginning, sit down together, settle, consult, appoint, take counsel, establish, instruct, lay, ordain.) Jesus is our starting point for building a purposed driven life. God answers every question and cancels every doubt by leading us to Jesus, the Chief Cornerstone to begin, settle, and consult every aspect of our lives with. Jesus wants to settle every issue of our lives from divorce, unemployment, singleness, death, depression, oppression, and so on. Once, we understand that we are to build our lives on Christ then He will begin to appoint, establish, and ordain us in our particular callings or God given purpose. As we embrace and walk in our God given purpose then there is no more time to dwell on our personal issues but only on Jesus, as our Chief Cornerstone.

Jesus, The Chief Cornerstone - Part 2
In Isaiah 28:16 God describes Jesus, the stone as a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, and a sure foundation. So, let’s explore a little deeper into the descriptives of this stone. “Behold I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a Tried stone…” (Hebrew origin and definition of Tried is Bochan:Bachan meaning trial, tried, investigate, examine, prove, tempted.) Jesus is described not just as any stone but a stone that has been tried, but found perfect and pure, investigated with never a flinch of guilt discovered, examined with no faults or sin found, proven to stand the test of time, and tempted yet unmoved in who He was and from His purpose. Once a stone is tested or tired it is now clear to build. In knowing this we must take every opportunity to thank God for giving us Jesus. Yes Jesus, a tried and proven Lord and Savior, who we can build our lives upon devoid of worries, because our foundation has been tried, investigated, examined, proven, and tempted yet found faultless. “Behold I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a Precious Cornerstone…” (Hebrew origin and definition of Precious is Yaqar meaning brightness, clear, costly, excellent, honorable woman, reputation, valuable, to make rare, be prized.) Jesus is described as the light of the world and as the church (re: woman/bride) displaying an impeccable and rare character of integrity, excellence, and value. Now, Cornerstone is a starting point or the spot that a builder starts building and is used to block or define a territory. So, our Precious Cornerstone is the masterpiece and the design of God, the builder to present Jesus “a Sure Foundation…” as our starting point to build our purpose and lives upon. John 3:17 states God sent His son into the world not to condemn the world, but the world through him might be saved. At the feet of Jesus is where life begins and our God given purpose is fulfilled. Allow Jesus to be your Chief Cornerstone by accepting Him into your heart and seeking Him first in every area and issue of your life permitting God to build His wonderful masterpiece in you.
